Promises are easy to make but tough to keep. It’s true that a person’s worth can be judged on the basis of whether he could be true to his word. Because if a person can’t value his word, he can’t be trusted. Here I would like to talk about a promise that I made to my cousin but it became increasingly tough for me to keep it because of certain circumstances.

My cousin lives in Delhi. He turned eighteen 2 months ago. He wanted me to be with him on that special occasion and I promised him that I would be by his side on that day no matter what. The next day, I received a notification from my college that I had my exam on the exact same day of his birthday. I felt bad because I really wanted to be with my cousin on his birthday. But because of my exam, it was not possible for me.

When I told this situation to my cousin he felt down in the dumps and told me that he would not celebrate his birthday without me. I tried a lot to convince him to change his mind about that but he was in no mood to listen to me. My exam was from 8am to 10am. I thought if I could get a bus or a train to Delhi after 10 am I could reach there by 5pm. But unfortunately, neither of the services was available. Nor did I have my own vehicle.

Luckily, I came to know that one of my friend’s father who lives stones throw away from my house had a meeting on that day in Delhi and he was supposed to leave at 11am in his private car. I requested him to take me with him and he agreed. On that day I did the same. I gave my exam and then we left for Delhi. When I reached there my cousin was surprised to see me. We celebrated his birthday with a grand party. And I was so happy that I was able to fulfil my promise.
