Many people use their phone to communicate by sending text messages than talking. What are the reasons for this? Is it a positive or negative development?

There is no doubt that the way people communicate has changed in this contemporary era. They generally prefer to interact with their relatives and friends by using their cell phones to send messages rather than calling. This is mainly because of their busy lifestyle and technological advancements. I believe that this trend has clear disadvantages for people.

Preference to send texts through smartphones instead of talking can be explained in terms of two key reasons. The most compelling reason is their hectic life. As most of the people are working, they find it difficult to have a suitable time to communicate. Therefore, they consider texting convenient because it can be sent at any time and the receiver will be able to reply whenever he is free. Impact of technology is another factor which deters people to make phone calls. In this present scenario, people tend to share everything on their social accounts through text and pictures to let people know what is happening in their life so they do not feel the need of calling others to share anything.

Ignorance of people to call their kith and kin is certainly disadvantageous for them. Owing to such an attitude of people, bonding among them has reduced. Lack of verbal conversation creates a loss of emotional contact among people. It is highly likely that it will further lead to stoppage of sending even text messages to others because love and affection would be lost. They might only like other people’s posts on social networking sites to show that they are connected and aware of their life events. For this reason,  differences among people would emerge as they become more isolated.

Conclusively, there are some factors for which people no longer feel the need to call others. I think that it has drawbacks for people because it causes loss of emotional support and creates distance among them.
