Cue-Card 35. Describe an event / happy experience from your childhood that you remember

Describe an event / happy experience from your childhood that you remember

You should say:
-What the event was
-When and where it happened
-What you saw or did
-Why you remember this event so well
  • I would say the most memorable event which took place when I was child was my great grandfather’s anniversary.
  • At that moment, of course, I didn’t realise what event our family gathering was dedicated to. My mom told me about it much later when we were looking through the photos in a family album.
  • Actually, it was several months ago. This is why I recalled this very event first. My great grandparents invited all the family members of our family to their house in the village.
  • Frankly speaking, I can’t explain why I remember this event. The thing is that I was so young, just about 7 or 8, that it is impossible to remember everything in detail.
  • I guess much of what I think I remember is a product of my imagination. Every time I recall this event, I see memories flooding across my mind like a kaleidoscope of pictures.
  • For example, there was a lot of food on the tables though I don’t know whether it was tasty or not. The guests were talking and laughing all the time. Some of them were dancing, just sitting and eating non-stop.
  • One more thing that I can’t help remembering is there was a firework display at night. Also, there were huge bouquets of beautiful flowers everywhere.
  • Well, reason I vividly remember this event is, for one thing, that recently I saw a photo taken during this event depicting the whole family.
  • Also, it seems to me this was the first family celebration my parents had taken me with them and allowed me to stay up until after midnight, therefore I felt like an adult.

OR

  • Well, I would like to tell you about the time I prepared a handmade present for my mother on my own for her birthday when I was a small child.
  • So, it was on my mother’s 32nd birthday and I really wanted to give my mother a special gift that wasn’t like others’.
  • After much thought and consideration, I came up with the idea of drawing a portrait as a gift. So, I rolled up my sleeves and started working really hard on the painting two weeks before her birthday.
  • However, it was an overwhelmingly difficult task to me because at that point, I had no drawing experience.
  • I just tried my best to portray her on a piece of paper as careful as possible, even though the way I drew was really messy and clumsy.
  • The picture was finally completed after ten days of struggling but I was afraid that my mother would think this was just an ugly piece of art and throw it away.
  • But things turned out to be completely different! When I gave my mother the picture, she was completely moved and became really emotional. She said that was the best gift she ever received in her life.
  • It was an unforgettable experience to me as that was one of the few times I did something for my mother.
