Describe a big company or organisation where you live that employs a lot of people
You should say:
- -What this company does
- -How you know about this organization
- -How big it is
- -What kind of people work there
- As far as I know, in my city, the only company that employs a large number of people is a textile producing company. Its name is JCT Limited.
- It is one of the leading manufacturers of textiles and filament yarn. JCT was the first manufacturer in the country to introduce eco-friendly fabric made of organic cotton.
- It employees about 10000 employees and I am sure it’s more than enough to say that it employs a lot of people.
- There is hardly anyone in our city that doesn’t know or has ever heard about this company as it is one of the biggest employers not only in our city but also in the country.
- Despite the fact that nowadays the production is automated, numbers of people are still involved in all the processes.
- There are many plants workers that clean, prepare, and monitor equipment. Some of them, perhaps, carry out maintenance work.
- Also, I am sure that there are a number of controllers and supervisors that have to make sure health and safety requirements are observed.
- I guess there are some engineers that provide assistance and direction to other plant personnel, conduct an operational test to ensure that designs fall within the expected specifications and, probably, design and improve processes to increase plant production efficiency and quality.
- It has the production capacity of 63 million meters of fabric per annum. I suppose the main factors which determine the size of the company is the number of people that it employs. As I have said before, it has about 10000 employees.
- Also, I read a newspaper article about the company, and now I can say that another factor that allows it to qualify as a very big one is annual revenue of more than 300 crores.

Companies and organisations
- What is the difference between a big company and small company?
Well, I guess everything is different from business size and organisational structure to communication and allocation of resources. For example, small companies mainly focus on niche market, bile big businesses tend to offer a variety of products and services worldwide. Also, in small companies strategic decision-making is more centralised as virtually all business decisions are made by company owners. The bigger the company is, the more decision-making authority spreads out among the various layers of management. One more thing I should mention is that in small companies each employee is responsible for a wide range of tasks, while in large companies each worker has a specific operational role.
- Are there many big companies in your country?
Of course. There are plenty of big companies in India these days. I think the main reasons for this are the enormous size and increasing wealth of the market, economic liberalisation, robust domestic demand and a young population of the country. Top 10 biggest companies in India are state-owned or controlled oil and gas businesses, manufacturing companies and banks. One more thing which explains why there is a big number of large companies in my country is that India is the most attractive market for investment, mainly due to its low labour costs and a high return on investment.
- What are the good things about working for a big company?
First of all, big companies always provide employees with big opportunities. Working for a large Corporation you become part of a huge community and create invaluable networks, you get access to a host of resources such as specialist training courses and additional qualifications; you have tremendous room for upward and sideways growth opportunities without having to leave. What is more, you have greater security and a more steady work pace than employees of small businesses.
- How can a small company grow big?
I think one of the most efficient ways to expand business these days is to go where its audience is on the web. What I mean is to start social accounts with Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn and inform potential or existing customers about Novelties and special offers attracting their attention to the company again and again and motivating them to buy more and more. Some more ways to help a company grow big are to diversify its product or service, target other markets, merge or acquire another business and, of course, some motivational stuff like encourage employees to explore more efficient approaches to increasing sales and reward the team for meeting budgets and timelines.
- Should big companies be punished more seriously than small companies?
Definitely yes! Fines must differ depending on the size of the company and its profit. If big companies get a fine which small companies can afford to pay, they just won’t feel responsible and continue to violate laws. One more reason for big corporations to be punished more seriously than small companies is the fact that the biggest the company is, the bigger the scope and depth of its effects are. For instance, the level of pollution caused by a small company is significantly different from the one caused by a big multinational corporation, which, of course, must entail a different level of responsibility and punishment.
- What help do young employees get from old employees?
Well, I guess they can get all kinds of help that they need to get settled at their new job and adapt to a new work environment. For example, old employees can identify their younger colleagues’ skill set and anything missing that young people need to work on and then older employees can tell younger ones how to acquire the skills which will help them to do their job better. What is more, old employees can help the young navigate tricky situations they may encounter at work, and give them advice on how to resolve them. I also guess old employees can motivate their young colleagues to accomplish more than they think they can, tell them how to go through hard times, teach them basic workplace interpersonal skills such as common courtesy and team play and even give them advice on how to steer their career so it can be more fulfilling. So, all kinds of help, no doubt.
